The purpose of the Sipayik Resilience Committee is to build the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point's internal capacity to facilitate community resilience and energy projects that were prioritized during the Sipayik Resilience Meeting in August 2022. Priorities included weatherization, heat pumps, and renewable energy. We are beginning with weatherization and are conducting a window insert building workshop to weatherize homes in Pleasant Point in Fall 2023. For more information about the Window Insert Build, see the "Sipayik Weatherization" tab. The SRC was formed in 2022 with funding from the State of Maine's Community Resilience Partnership.
Mission Statement
The current and future projects of the Sipayik Resilience Committee are listed here:
2023 Window Insert Build
A Window Insert Build was conducted on August 22-29, 2023 at 22 Bayview Drive. A second window insert build is being planned for 2024 along with insulation for homes.
Heat Pump Program, Renewable Energy, Microgrid
We are exploring options for a residential heat pump program that would fund heat pumps for homes in Pleasant Point in 2024 in collaboration with other Wabanaki tribes. Return to this page in future months for further updates on this ongoing effort. We are also exploring grants for a community owned renewable energy installation for the community and a microgrid as well as energy efficiency for homes in general.
